Build a Life Presentation |
Reflection |
One valuable takeaway from this project is that I now have an idea on how much it costs once I leave home. I never realized how much my parents actually paid monthly and this project made me realize how money conscious I will have to be once I go to college and graduate. I found this project valuable because I now know how to calculate expenses and I have an idea on how costly it is to live alone. Since this project was so long I also realized I probably no longer want to be a marine biologist. There is a possibility, but I probably won’t study that in college. I would like to learn more about taxes and how to calculate that. We never completely discussed the topic of taxes and I think that would be useful to learn about.
The monthly expenses that surprised me the most were electric. Monthly eclectic a little over 100 a month, which is more once you have roommates. Gas would also surprise me if I filled up my tank more, but since I live so close to the school I don’t think I would use my car that much. I don’t pay for much now, which is why I understand that it would be a shock once I leave the house. At the moment I only pay for gas, gym membership, clothes, and food when I go out. That’s not all necessarily bills, but it already does add up. My starting salary is enough to cover my monthly expenses. I would have roughly 1,568 remaining. The issue now is that I am not sure I want to pursue this career path. This assignment gave us the opportunity to use financial, economic, and business literacy skills. We used these skills by applying the process of learning about months, yearly, and net income. I understand more about lifely budgets and how much of your income is taken out by taxes. I also now understand how much scholarships, financial aid, and living on campus will help my expenses. Before I go to college I would like to have a slight idea about what I would like to study, so I don’t spend time and money on classes that I forsure will not use. |
