One major project/assignment that we have completed so far in english was the socratic seminar. We were assigned to discuss one claim about a historical event that we have learned so far about in this class, and one personal fun claim of your choice. We were required to have evidence and sources. My first claim was that foraging was better than farming. The claim used global awareness. We had to demonstrate our knowledge about foraging communities and have awareness of how the societies worked. I would say our first socratic seminar went pretty well. Everyone added themselves to the discussion and agreed or disagreed. I am most proud of the whole class. It’s always better when everyone participates in these types of class activities and we did just that. Everyone will be more prepared and more familiar with our next socratic seminar and it will probably go better. The main 21st century skill we used was communication skills. Without this particular skill seminar would not have been a socratic seminar. The most difficult part of this assignment was probably choosing a topic that is good enough to debate with. We had to communicate and discuss with one another to actually participate in the task. We will use the information that we learned from other students for future knowledge. This is an important skill to fully understand and absorb the information given from our classmates, so we have the ability to discuss in the seminar. I also wasn’t at school the day before the seminar, so I wasn’t fully prepared, and chose my topic the night before. I had to self direct myself to look through the readings and come up with a claim to have in time for the next class. Next time I would just like to participate in the discussion more.
